Once
upon a time, there was a large mountain side, where an eagle’s nest rested. The
eagle’s nest contained four large eggs. One day an earthquake rocked the
mountain causing one of the eggs to roll down the mountain to a chicken farm,
located in the valley below
One day, the egg hatched and a beautiful
eagle was born, however the eagle was raised to be a chicken. Soon, the eagle
believed that he was nothing more than a chicken. The eagle loved his home and family,
but his spirit cried out for more. While playing a game on the farm one day,
the eagle looked to the skies above and cried “oh, I wish to soar like those
birds up there!” the chickens roared with laughter, “You cannot soar with those
birds. You are a chicken and chickens do not soar.”
The eagle continued staring
at his real family up above, wishing and dreaming that he could be with them.
Each time the eagle would let his dreams be known, he was told that it can’t be
done. Sadly, the eagle after some time stopped dreaming and continued to live
the life of a chicken and finally, after a long time as a chicken, the eagle
passed away. This of course may not be the first time you are hearing the story
but is there lessons to be learned from it? Yes! The whole emphasis lies on the
need for one not to trade his dreams/aspirations for mediocre.
You may be
passing through some challenging time due to life uncertainties, or it might be
that it has all been zig-zag ever since, “I know what I mean.” whichever be the
case, do not let that lure you into the life of tag along. If you has been
living your life’s well defined dreams but later meet with obstacles or your
chosen part seems different from those of others, Remember, (“Ihe onye kporo
Nkita ya k’onaza.”) although, it may be pretty difficult for one to
keep/maintain his self dignity in trying times, but it certainly worth the
efforts. Especially to be wary of in such times, are some well meaning friends,
some of whom may pressure you into alternatives that only addresses your short
term needs. But to be on safer side as it were, one may tempted to go all the
way and with time forgets his desired goal just like the unfortunate eagle
chicken.
Another danger of relying on the so-called sympathizers, “is that the days of outright help is somehow
over, what is common these days are people who want to convert others to their
personal use at most.” So don’t consent to creep when you feel an impulse to
soar. Be bold enough to create a vivid image in your mind of who you want to be
and work against all odds to bring it to reality by acting accordingly.
